Creating Menus And Navigation

In your blog, menus and navigation play a crucial role in organizing your content and helping your readers find what they're looking for. In this tutorial, we'll explore how to create menus and customize navigation in your blog.

Step 1: Access the Customizer

  1. Log in to your blog's admin dashboard.
  2. On the left-hand side, click on “Appearance” and then select “Customize.”

Step 2: Creating a Menu

  1. In the Customizer, you will find a section called “Menus.” Click on it.
  2. Click on the “Create New Menu” button.
  3. Give your menu a name and click on the “Create Menu” button.

  3. After adding the desired items, you can drag and drop them to organize the menu structure. Indent items beneath others to create dropdown or sub-menu items.
  4. When you're done organizing your items and submenu items, click on the “Publish” button to save your changes.

Step 4: Customizing the Menu

  1. In the Customizer, you'll find options to customize the appearance of your menu. These options may vary depending on your theme.
    a. Menu Locations: In this section, you can modify where your menu is displayed.
    b. Menu Options: Here, you can enable/disable features like displaying the “Home” link, adding dropdown indicators, or opening links in new tabs.
    c. Menu Styling: Customize the colors, font sizes, and other visual aspects of your menu.
  2. Once you've made the desired changes, click on the “Publish” button to save your modifications.

Step 5: Adding Navigation Widgets

  1. In some cases, you may want to include additional navigation elements in other areas of your blog, such as a sidebar or footer. You can achieve this by adding navigation widgets.
  2. To add a navigation widget, go to the Customizer and click on “Widgets.”
  3. Choose the desired sidebar or footer area where you want to add the navigation widget.
  4. Click on the “Add a Widget” button and search for “Navigation Menu” or “Custom Menu.”
  5. Select the widget and choose the menu you want to display from the dropdown list.
  6. Customize the widget settings if necessary, and then click on the “Publish” button to save your changes.
